| Lake Sabrina - 7-25-2010 |

| Another wonderful week at Lake Sabrina. The flowers continue to bloom the brightest colors nature has to offer, the lake continues to be full - both of water and of fish, the sky continues to be the bluest of blue with the fluffiest white clouds imaginable and the catching continues to be GREAT. Ahhh - wish you were here. |
| The gut can continues to tell the story - the catching is GREAT. Salmon Eggs and NightCrawlers continue to be the enticement of choice, but jigs or flies are also working at the Inlets. Flashers and a NightCrawler, or swivel, split-shot and NightCrawler or a fly such as an olive WoolyBugger or Matuka, or a lure with a bit of red on them such as the Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant or SuperDuper for the trollers. PowerBait is working from shore. And those fishing from the dam - remember, don`t be fooled by those sucker fish, try using jig or PowerBait. The Department of Fish and Game stocked on Friday. Almost forgot to mention the nice 3-1/2 pound Alper Brandon Helmbolt of Bishop landed on NightCrawlers. Then there was Brandon Comins who caught a nice rainbow back at the DingleBerry Inlet - Good job, Brandons! |
| High`s remained in the low 80s and lows in the mid 50`s. We`ve got afternoon thunder-boomers along with showers in the forecast for the next few days, so don`t forget some raingear. You can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com. |
| Thought I best leave in the parts about the sucker fish cuz there are still lots of people fishing for those 'browns` (guess they don`t read the fishing report). All those fish you see next to the dam, sucker fish. What is sucker fish - a sucker fish is a fish that usually lives in your fish aquarium and keeps it free of algae. And just how did they come to reside at Lake Sabrina - well, we think that years ago, some 'angler` fished ILLEGALLY with live fish - sucker fish - and either they weren`t hooked very well on the hook and got off or when the 'angler` was done fishing, he threw whatever live sucker fish he had into the Lake - now we have millions of those fish. NO FISHING WITH LIVE FISH in our lakes! |
| All USFS campgrounds are now open. The price this year to camp at the Forest Service campgrounds are $21.00. The only USFS campground that accepts reservations is Four Jeffery. There 31 sites available for reservations: you can book on-line at www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777. All other campsites at Four Jeffery and the other campgrounds are first come, first served. There is a full hook-up RV campground - Creekside RV park which is on the road to South Lake. |
| THE SKEETERS ARE HERE, boy are there here! It`s nice to have a bit of a breeze as that is all it takes to blow them away. DON`T FORGET THE BUG JUICE. Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen -. You`ve got sun coming at you in ALL directions and the rays from the water are deadly! Also, remember when applying sunscreen, bug juice or any other FU-FU juice, WASH YOUR HANDS! The juice you apply will taint your tackle and bait. You know it tastes yucky, the fish think it tastes yucky, too, although have you ever tasted PowerBait or Worms - to each their own. |
| Didn`t get the pictures taken this week - a bit busy, NOT COMPLAINING mind you, but we were a bit on the tuckered side each evening. It`s on the schedule again for this week - with the thundershower in the forecast the Lake may empty out early and we`ll have energy for the evening walk with the camera. |
